Preparing for the Flu Season
How Do You Prepare for a Cold and Flu Season?
The flu season usually begins around December and until March and it is always best to be prepared beforehand for when it hits. Once the symptoms start showing of the flu then you can prevent it from getting much worse if you are prepared.
How you can prepare for the flu season is,
● Have a stock of supplies ready before the flu season starts (Tissues, hand sanitizer, hand soap)
● Have a stock of medications like pain relievers, fever reducers, cough syrup, and any others that would help.
● You can buy a thermometer and humidifier which would be beneficial.
The flu can very often be mistaken for a common cold due to some of the symptoms being similar. You should watch the symptoms closely and identify the difference between the flu and the common cold.
What Should I Take for Flu Season?
If you do happen to get the flu then it is best to take care of yourself and prevent the symptoms from getting much worse. When the symptoms stay for longer and you feel like you are not getting better then it is best to make an appointment with your doctor.
You should stay at home and get plenty of rest, this also helps prevent from spreading of the flu virus to other people and keeping the community safe too. Getting plenty of rest can help your immune system to fight off the flu virus better since if you are getting stressed with work or any other kind of work then your body won’t have the energy to fight off the flu.
You can take medications that are known to help prevent the symptoms from getting worse. There are certain over-the-counter products that can help such as cough syrup, pain relievers, antiviral medications and etc. You should have plenty of fluids as well such as water, a warm beverage, or even soup as well.
What Does the Flu Shot Do?
The flu shot is made to be a protection against infection from the flu virus during the flu season. The flu shot can last around six to eight months which starts two weeks after you have received it. You should get this, especially during the flu season when there is a higher risk for your loved ones to get infected by the virus.
What the flu shot does is that the antibodies start building up in your body after two weeks and these antibodies are what help protect you from getting infected by the flu virus. Everyone who is six months and older should get the flu shot every year before the flu season.
